Cross-Country Skiing
Cross-country skiing is balsam for body and soul. How good, then, that the Schladming-Dachstein region also provides a home for Nordic skiing. For example, on the sunny plateau of Ramsau am Dachstein – basking in sunshine from early in the morning until late afternoon, skiers are able to embark on exceptionally long and enjoyable cross-country tours via beautifully maintained trails.
The cross-country trail network of Ramsau am Dachstein extends for roughly 220 km, including 125 km for classic technique and 95 for “skaters”. The trails lead through broad expanses of snow and past traditional mountain huts, suitable for beginners as well as pros. For unbeatable quality, the trails are freshly maintained every single day.
Cross-country skiing isn’t only possible beneath the watchful gaze of the Dachstein. Near the top of this majestic Styrian mountain, on Dachstein glacier at 2700 m, you will discover the highest cross-country trail in our region. A location greatly appreciated by the international elite of Nordic skiing, who regularly pay a visit to the glacier.
Four top cross-country schools have the perfect offer in store for beginners wanting to enjoy their first taste of XCing, as well as for professional-level skiers excited to fine-tune their technique. In addition to that, you might also want to put your accuracy and coordination to the test in the sport of biathlon in an actual World Cup setting.
As the last rays of sunshine disappear behind the mountains, the day on the plateau also draws to a close. Though that doesn’t necessarily mean your fun is quite over yet. Thanks to a night trail illuminated from 5 until 9 PM, the cross-country enjoyment in Ramsau am Dachstein is virtually unlimited.
