Größenberg / Größing starting at the Weißensteinhütte
Above the clouds, freedom must be boundless: an alpine pasture hike to the highest peak of the Styrian Randgebirge.
The Stubalpe is part of the Styrian Randgebirge and with its seemingly endless alpine ridges a popular hiking area. With the Amering (2187 m) we hike the highest peak and enjoy one of the most beautiful views far and wide. The entire Judenburg-Knittelfeld basin (also called the Aichfeld) lies before us and behind it the Wölzer and Seckauer Tauern mountains present themselves in all their mightiness. This hike offers many advantages: moderate ascents and descents, long walking passages along the broad mountain ridges, peaks with great views, moderately frequented hiking trails and a rustic alpine hut as a place to stop for refreshments. Conclusion: What more could a hiker's heart desire!

We start at the Weißensteinhütte (1706 m) and walk slightly uphill along the forest path marked as hiking trail no. 521. After a short time we reach a crossroads, where we continue hiking to the left in the direction of Speikkogel. When we reach a wooden barrier, we see two wooden signposts with the inscription Weißenstein and Amering, which we follow. The trail leads continuously - along the fence or the Klaubstein wall - uphill to the alpine pastures of the Stubalpe, which are rich in views. The first peak, the Weißenstein (2160 m) is recognizable by a pole. We keep to the left and hike over the ridge to the Ameringkogel (2187 m) and after another descent and ascent to the Größenberg / Größing (2152 m). From the Größing we return to the saddle and continue to the right via the path below the Ameringkogel. The remaining descent leads via the ascent route back to the Weißensteinhütte, which is only open until September 15.
Mostly easy, descent at Amering somewhat steeper; well marked and signposted.
