Hochsteiermark - Mariazell Tour
This dreamy tour is particularly interesting from a scenic point of view - with the Triebener Tauern, Gesäuse, Wildalpen via Turnau, the tour not only offers wonderful, winding routes, but also a variety of natural and cultural offers in the Hochsteiermark region and the Murtal.
Our tour takes us over the Niedere Tauern from Spielberg via Fohnsdorf, Oberzeiring to the Hohentauern pass. The beautifully developed route continues to Trieben. Here the route leads us via Admont through the Gesäuse National Park. The Gesäuse is the 16km long "breakthrough valley of the Enns" between Admont and Hieflau. The fast, roaring white water that accompanies us is particularly impressive. Then we continue to Hieflau into the Salzatal through the Wildalpen - this so-called "Romantic Road" is really wild and romantic - the area is best known for its great rafting offers. A stop at the "HochQuellWasser" museum pays off here and - because this is where the drinking water that supplies all of Vienna comes from. The sources of the springs are located approx. 90 m inside the mountain, directly at the main tunnel and can be reached through an access tunnel. At times of particularly strong snowmelt and after heavy precipitation, beautiful waterfalls with a height of up to 70 m arise on the left Salzaufer in the area of the Kläffer springs over a length of 300 m - these can of course also be visited. The fantastic route takes us via Gußwerk to Mariazell. This pilgrimage site is one of the most important pilgrimage sites in Europe with approx. 800,000 visitors annually, numerous car and motorcycle pilgrims come here to ask for a safe journey. We now continue along the Hall valley over the Lahnsattel (1,015m) to Mürzsteg. We continue via Neuberg an der Mürz - here you can visit the Neuberg Minster or the glass blowing experience. The route continues to Mürzzuschlag, where the world cultural heritage site is home to the Semmering Railway and as part of the exhibition worlds you can visit the Südbahnmuseum, which makes the railway history understandable in a spectacular way. We now continue along the main road but soon turn to Krieglach in the direction of Veitsch from here we drive to Turnau and further over the Pogusch. For all gourmets, there are Styrian delicacies here at Steirereck and for a break it is best to stretch your feet on the Bründlweg at the barefoot pond. We now land in St. Marein in the Mürtzal and follow the main road via Bruck a.d. Mur, Leoben, St. Michael, St. Stefan im Murtal to Spielberg.
