King Dachstein challenges to circumnavigate it. At 122 kilometers and 5800 meters in vertical gains, this run demands a lot. It is best to run the trail in 4 daily stages, each with about a quarter of the distance and altitude difference. There is also a bookable package from Salzkammergut Touristik.

More information

From the west (Salzburg/Villach):

Exit the A10 Tauern autobahn in Golling and continue on B162 federal road to Abtenau. Via B166 to Rußbach am Paß Gschütt and to Gosau.

From the north (Linz/Vienna):

Exit the A1 Westautobahn near Laakirchen and continue on B145 through Gmunden and along the shore of Traunsee to Ebensee. Continue via Bad Ischl to Bad Goisern. Turn off onto the B166 and at Lake Hallstatt leave the lake in a sharp turn towards Gosau.

From the south (Graz):

Exit the A9 Phyrnautobahn near Liezen and take the B320 Ennstalbundesstraße to Trautenfels. From there continue on the B145 Salzkammergut-Straße to Bad Aussee. Here on the L701/L547 through the Koppental to Hallstatt. On the Hallstättersee road along the shore of Lake Hallstatt in the direction of Bad Goisern. Once you reach B166 follow it to Gosau.

Routing:

Day 1: Individual arrival at Salzburg train station and with the bus ticket (free ticket) to Gosau am Dachstein (change buses once in Bad Ischl) or individual arrival in Gosau am Dachstein. Overnight stay including half board and 1 drink in Gosau.

Day 2: From Gosau via the Salzberg to Hallstatt and via Obertraun and the Koppental to Bad Aussee. ~33.5 km, ascent: 1230 m / descent 1280 m, luggage transfer from Gosau to Bad Bad Aussee. Overnight stay including half board in Bad Aussee

Day 3: From Bad Aussee via the Ödensee to the Stoderzinken. ~30.5 km, ascent 2130 m / descent 970 m, luggage transfer from Bad Aussee to the Stoderzinken. Overnight stay including half board at the Stoderzinken

Day 4: From the Stoderzinken to the south face of the Dachstein via the "Ramsauer Höhenweg". Alternative via the "Dachstein Rundweg" over the glacier. ~20.0 km, ascent 1240 m / descent 1380 m, luggage transfer from the Stoderzinken to the Dachstein south face. Overnight stay including half board near the Dachstein south face.

Day 5: From Ramsau via the Hofpürglhütte, Zwieselalm and Herrenweg to Gosau. ~32.5 km, ascent 1180 m / descent 2140 m, luggage transfer from Ramsau to Gosau. Overnight stay including half board and 1 drink in Gosau.

Day 6: Individual departure by bus (free ticket) via Bad Ischl to Salzburg train station or individual departure from Gosau.

Individual arrival at Salzburg train station and by bus to Gosau am Dachstein (change buses once in Bad Ischl).B162
