Tetter Moor XC Skating Trail

Closed
"Tettermoor" skating trail is one of two skating trails in Untertal valley and runs along two beautiful loops on both sides of the Untertalbach creek in the area of Tetter moor.

The skating slopes in Untertal are among the easy cross country skating runs in the Schladming-Dachstein region. The "Tetter Moor" skating track owes its name to the nearby moor it passes by. Tetter Moor run is a good choice for beginners in the skating technique because the largest part of the track runs along flat terrain with almonst no grades. Only the ascent to and descent from Gasthof Tetter inn is a section of moderate difficulty due to a short steep ascent followed by a short and quite steep downhill section. Gasthof Tetter inn is an option for a refreshment stop along the "Tetter Moor" run. Waldhäuslalm is not far from the run too.

The route is especially charming due to its location next to the Untertalbach river meandering through Tetter Moor. Just as Almenrunde skating run (further into the valley) the Tetter Moor XC track is a good choice for sportive nature lovers.

More information

From Schladming to Rohrmoos, at the roundabout in Rohrmoos turn left into the direction of Rohrmoos Untertal and follow the road for approximately 7 kms to the parking at the lookout tower Tetter Moor. Alternatively you may park at Gasthof Tetter inn (private parking!)

As an entry point, we recommended parking at Tettermoor lookout tower at the end of the Tetter Moor. From there you can run the skating trail out of the valley. After about 200 meters, turn left onto a wide loop and then continue out of the valley. Between Untertalstraße road and Tetter Moor you reach Untertalbach below Gasthof Tetter inn where you then cross over the wooden bridge to the opposite (western) bank of the Untertalbach creek.

Here a loop takes you a little way into the valley and back to the bridge. Now follows a short steep climb to Gasthof Tetter inn, followed by the descent back to Tettermoor. Along the known route you run back towards the starting point.

Distance of the Tettermoor skating trail

The Tettermoor skating trail has a total length of 4 km. The loop near the lookout tower has about 450 m in length, the loop on the west bank of the Untertalbach about 950 m. The ascent to and downhill section from Gasthof Tetter has a length of about 300 m (in case you cut short this part you save about 200 m).

That said, you can shorten your lap by a total of 1.6 km or extend it with repetition of the loops.

Heading into the valley on 1.2 kms of classic XC track "Kristallloipe" takes you to Almenrunde skating run. On the way you pass by Waldhäuslalm inn.

With the buses of Planai-Hochwurzen from Schladming or Rohrmoos to one of the following bus tops in Untertal:

  • Gasthof Tetter inn
  • Waldhäuslalm inn (from there follow classic XC trail "Kristallloipe" out of the valley to reach the starting point at the lookout tower.

Parking at the lookout tower available.

The trails are prepared by the "Flitzemaus" - the trail machine in Untertal. In the restaurants in Untertal you can buy a sticker, which you can use to support the Flitzemaus in preparing the trails.

There are also small cash registers at the starting points where you can make a voluntary contribution. Since the trail preparation depends mainly on the quality of the snow, the conditions cannot always be the same. The Flitzemaus and the hard-working trail workers naturally try their best.
